A few days back I happened to attend a really good session from Chris Richardson at the SDForum SAM SIG.
The session was about Amazon Elastic Computing Cloud (EC2) and how it is fairly easy to setup and create multiple Linux VMs on demand. Services such as slideshare and many other Web 2.0 startups piggyback on this Amazon service.
My feeling is that this is just the start of the compute on demand revolution. See announcement from Rackspace.
